ABOUT
Cappies of Greater Cincinnati is a student-centric theater, journalism, and awards program that brings high school students together through shows, writing, and peer recognition. Student critics are trained to attend and evaluate productions at other participating schools, collaborate with peers, write reviews for publication, and vote to recognize outstanding performances, technical achievements and writing. Through these experiences, Cappies develops stronger writers, critical thinkers, communicators, collaborators and leaders while connecting diverse students across the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky theatre community.

We envision a Greater Cincinnati community where every student is afforded the opportunity to discover their voice, develop their talents, and experience the transformative power of theatre. By connecting students across schools, backgrounds, and communities, Cappies aspires to cultivate the next generation of creative thinkers, skilled writers, effective communicators, collaborative leaders, and lifelong champions of the arts.
MISSION
Our mission is to develop and elevate student voices through theatre, writing, and collaboration. Through a student-first program, we strengthen critical thinking, writing, communication, and creativity. We develop confident, thoughtful leaders and celebrate excellence in high school theatre and journalism. We connect students across diverse schools and communities who share a common passion for the arts.
PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL STUDENTS
We recognize the importance of representation and strive to engage schools from urban, rural, and suburban areas, ensuring that students from diverse socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds have equal opportunities to participate. By providing resources, mentorship, and support, we aim to dismantle barriers that have historically excluded underrepresented groups from theatre programs. Inclusion is at the heart of our work. We are dedicated to creating a safe and respectful environment where all students feel valued and empowered to express themselves authentically.
We actively seek to incorporate diverse perspectives in all aspects of our program, from performances to critiques. Accessibility is paramount in our efforts. We are committed to making our events and performances accessible to all students, including those with disabilities. Our goal is to ensure that everyone can fully participate and benefit from the transformative power of theater. Together, we work to build a vibrant, inclusive, and equitable community that reflects the diverse talents and stories of Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky’s youth.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors for the Cappies of Greater Cincinnati consists of business professionals, educators, program alumni, and theatre enthusiasts who are dedicated to serving the students in our program. We also have opportunities to volunteer on several sub-committees, all in the spirit of celebrating student theatre.
